Allegro Lace & Allegro Aran

Bands of Lace Cowl (or Scarf)

Description:  Using the same size needle and alternating thin bands of Allegro Aran with wider bands of Allegro Lace creates this beautiful, easy-to-wear fabric.  The cowl is light but warm.  Instructions for scarf version included.

Level:  Easy (garter, alternating two yarns)

Size:  Cowl = 33" circumference x 12" high, Scarf = 56" long x 7" wide

Instructions are written for cowl version with scarf version in parentheses.

Materials: 

Gauge:  3 sts = 1" over garter stitch after blocking using Allegro Aran

Note: Blocking is very important for this project.  Piece will spread out nicely once blocked.

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COWL (SCARF)

Note: This piece is worked all in garter stitch.

 

Cast on 100 (168 sts) with Allegro Aran.

 

With Allegro Aran, knit 2 rows.

With Allegro Lace, knit 6 rows.

Repeat these 8 rows 11 (7) more times.

With Allegro Aran, knit 2 more rows.

 

BO loosely with size 10.5-11 needle.  (If bound off too tightly, the edge will bow.)  Dampen and block to measurements by pinning on a towel.

 

For Cowl Only:  Sew ends together to form cowl.

 

Weave in all ends.
