Mini Solid & Sausalito

Estonian Rib Headband

Description:  This headband warms the ears while looking stylish on those chilly days.  The Estonian Rib design imitates entrelac but is much easier to work.  One ball of each Sausalito and Mini Solid should yield two headbands.

Level:  Easy (knit, purl, yarn overs, increasing, decreasing)

Size:  Adult Medium (19" circumference unstretched x 4½" high)

Materials: 

  • 1 ball Crystal Palace Sausalito (shown in 8120 "Borealis")
  • 1 ball Crystal Palace Mini Solid (shown in 1100 "Natural Ecru")
  • Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles -16" circular in US sizes 2 & 4 (or size needed for gauge)
  • Stitch marker
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:  6.5 sts = 1” in stockinette stitch on larger needles

Abbreviations:  k- knit; p- purl; st(s)- stitch(es)

 

Inc (Right increase): Tip the left needle forward and  knit into the purl bump on back of stitch, then knit into stitch on needle.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Using smaller needle and Sausalito, cast on 150 sts.  Join, taking care not to twist stitches. Work in K1-P1 ribbing for 1.25”.  Change to larger needle and knit one round even. 

 

Increase round:  *K4, inc in next st.*  Repeat between * around – 180 sts.

 

Change to Mini Mochi and begin pattern:

 

*K2, yo, K2, K2 tog.* all around.

 

Repeat this pattern round, changing color every 4 rounds, until 5 color pattern rounds have been completed.  Change to Sausalito and knit one round even.

 

Decrease round:  *K4, K2 tog* all around – 150 sts. 

 

Change to smaller needle and work K1-P1 ribbing for 1.25”.  Bind off loosely in pattern.
